MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's tennis team set a new standard for victories in a 7-2 dual match triumph over Carroll University on Saturday at Rennebohm Park. The win was the 14th of the season for the Eagles, breaking the previous record of 13 wins set during the 2008-09 season.
Edgewood College opened a 2-1 lead after doubles play, claiming both the No. 2 and No. 3 matches.
Amber Hemp and
Jessi Ditzler ran their season record to 19-2 with an 8-2 victory over Kara Paroubek and Megan Rosenberg at the No. 2 position. The two of them each have 23 doubles match victories this season sharing the Edgewood College single season record.
Brittany Storhoff and
Kristen Boone won an 8-4 decision at No. 3 doubles.
Ditzler also crept closer to the nearly 20-year old single season record for singles wins at Edgewood College, defeating the Pioneers' Elissa McKinley 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. She now has 19 wins on the season against just four losses, two short of Kari Beisenstein's record 21 wins in 1991.
Senior
Hannah Pincsak and junior Hemp each had to go the distance in their No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches. Pincsak used a supertiebreaker to win her match 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 over Kate Rassmussen at No. 1, while Hemp went a full three sets to beat Alyssa Larson 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 2. Storhoff and
Shae Beckwith also won their singles matches in straight sets.
Edgewood College has five more matches remaining before the NAC Women's Tennis Team Tournament to determine the conference's representative to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Eagles will host a triangular with Carthage College and UW-La Crosse next Sunday in their final home match of the year.
