Eagles wrap regular season with sixth straight win

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – For those who believe late season momentum is good omen for postseason success, they may want to throw their support behind the Edgewood  College women's soccer team. The Eagles concluded the regular season with their sixth straight win, this time an 8-0 victory over Lakeland College. With the win the Eagles clinch no worse than the third seed for the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament which starts on Sunday.

Edgewood College (13-4-1, 9-2-1 NAC) scored three times in the first half, beginning with a goal in the 16th minute from Emily Berns off an assist from Ashley Alonso. Alonso would end the day with two assists and a goal of her own. Kristina Santaga notched the Eagles' second goal in the 25th minute and Hailey Boyle knocked one in with less than three minutes to go before halftime. Janna Yost assisted on Santaga's goal, while Emily Dorsett set-up Boyle for her third goal of the season.

The Eagles took off in the second half, putting the match away with four goals in the first 15 minutes. Leading scorer Elaine Gerry got the first and last in that stretch, the latter on assist from Alonso. In between, Gerry set up Alonso for her second goal of the season in the 52nd minute and Santaga added her second of the afternoon and 10th of the season in the 58th minute. Katie Pampuch finished off the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 77th minute.

Kristi Frisch earned her 12th victory of the season by making one save in the first half. Tori Fortney relieved Frisch at halftime and made three saves to preserve the shutout. Lakeland College goalkeeper Katelyn Streeter made 10 saves for the Muskies. The Eagles outshot Lakeland College (5-14, 4-8 NAC) by a total of 31-7 for the match.

Edgewood College can gain the second seed and a bye into Wednesday's semifinal in the NAC Tournament if 12th place Maranatha Baptist is able to upset second place second place Marian University tomorrow afternoon. Otherwise, the Eagles will remain the third seed and will host the sixth seed which will be determine later on Wednesday night. That NAC Tournament first round game will take place on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. at Breese Stevens Field.
