Records fall in Eagles blowout victory

MADISON, Wis. – The Edgewood College women's soccer team shattered school records for goals, assists and points in a 21-0 blowout of Rockford College on Saturday afternoon. Ten different players scored a goal and 15 different Eagles had at least one point in the game. Edgewood College won on Senior Day and extended their winning streak to five straight games.

Senior Erica Svjose tallied the first goal two minutes in the game and the scoring never stopped. Junior Elaine Gerry scored six times, tallying three goals in a row in both the first and second halves before being subbed out of the game. The six goals matched her career-high for the second time this season and third time in her career.

Gerry brought her season total to 22 goals and her career count to 73. She and MSOE senior Jessica Axt are in a race to become the Northern Athletics Conference career scoring leader. Axt currently has 75 goals and 14 assists for 164 points, while Gerry has 73 goals and 14 assists for 160 career points.

Sophomore Sophie Rodriguez also had a hat trick in the first half and scored four goals on the day. Freshman Katherine Lyons also scored her first career hat trick, including a header goal. Janna Yost made her Senior Day memorable scoring two goals and adding two assists. Sophomore Hailey Boyle and junior Emily Berns turned in identical stat lines with one goal and three assists each. Another sophomore, Moe Baemmert, did Berns and Boyle one better scoring a goal and handing out a team-high four assists.

Svjose added an assist to her opening goal, while Emily Dorsett and Katie Pampuch also scored. Kristina Santaga posted a pair of assists, while Megan Falk, Clare Schumacher, Ashley Alonso and Molly Haertle all chipped in an assist.

Edgewood College (12-4-1, 8-2-1 NAC) broke school records for goals (21) and points (61) which were set in the Eagles 2006 game against Rockford College. The team's 19 assists broke the school record of 15 assists which dated back to 1997 game against Lakeland College. The Eagles fired off a team-record 82 shots, 30 more than the previous record set in 2008 against Alverno College.

The Eagles can clinch at least the third seed for the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament with a win over Lakeland College in their regular season finale. Edgewood College will travel to meet the Muskies at 3:30 next Wednesday afternoon.
