MADISON, Wis. – Just as the Edgewood College women's soccer team did on Wednesday night, they played solid defense en route to another shutout victory.
Kristina Santaga scored two of the Eagles' three goals in their 3-0 win over Benedictine University on Saturday afternoon.
Jenna Mineau recorded the first shot on net in the 17th minute, but it was saved by Benedictine's Michelle Del Sarto. Edgewood College (7-3-1, 4-1-1 NAC) had a couple corner kicks before
Brianna Franken got the Eagles on the board in the 30th minute. Franken took a pass from
Emily Dorsett which cleared the nearest defender, and ripped her shot away from the keep to lower left side for her first goal of the season.
Only 17 minutes later, Santaga struck for the first time. The junior from Green Bay took a pass from
Molly Haertle and carried the ball down the left side of the field. She then ripped her shot across the field to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Santaga netted her second goal of the game and fourth of the season 12 minutes into the second half. This time she took a shot that snuck through the keeper's hands and trickled into the net to give the Eagles a commanding 3-0 lead.
Benedictine (5-4-1, 4-2 NAC) had an opportunity to get on the board in the 84th minute when Nikki Jhanji took a free kick that was saved by
Tori Fortney to preserve the shutout. Fortney replaced
Kristi Frisch who made one save in the 3-0 win.
