OSHKOSH, Wis. - No one will accuse the Edgewood College volleyball team of ordering cupcakes for their non-conference meal. The Eagles played their second and third nationally ranked opponents in their first four matches of the season on Wednesday night at UW-Oshkosh. The Eagles fell 3-0 to both 25th-ranked University of Chicago and the sixth-ranked Titans.

Edgewood College played the middle sets of the evening well, but had trouble in the opening set against the University of Chicago and the closing set against UW-Oshkosh. The Maroons took the first match 25-12, 25-18, 25-20 as the Eagles had 22 kills and a .120 attack percentage. Sophomore Mallory Palmer had a team-high five kills against Chicago, while Kristin Manske and Katie Wedvick added four kills apiece.

In the second match, the Eagles stood toe-to-toe with WIAC preseason favorite UW-Oshkosh for the first two sets in a 25-19, 25-20, 25-10 setback. Freshman Jessica Martin had the Eagles top performance, scoring seven kills with only one error. Palmer added another five kills in the effort.

Edgewood College will get another ranked opponent this weekend when they play 12th-ranked UW-Eau Claire as part of the Augsburg College Invitational in Minneapolis, Minn. The Eagles will play the Blugolds and the host Auggies on Friday, before meeting the College of St. Benedict and a team to be determined on Saturday.
