PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – After the Edgewood College women's volleyball team won their first two matches of the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday, the Eagles hoped the momentum would carry over to Saturday. However, the Eagles dropped their first match to host UW-Platteville 3-0, and then fell to St. Norbert College by the same score to finish the tournament 2-2.

The Eagles (6-10) faced UW-Platteville (10-2) a mere 12 hours after their match with UW-Stout ended on Friday night. Edgewood College fell behind early and trailed 16-11 before calling for a timeout. After the teams traded points, the Eagles went on a 4-0 run to get the score back to within a point at 17-16. However, the Pioneers held off the Eagles to take the first set 25-21.

Just as they did in the first set, Edgewood College faced an early deficit in the second set. The Eagles could not come back and dropped the set 25-14. The score was tied at eight in the third set before UW-Platteville began to pull away. The Pioneers scored 15 of the next 19 points and took the set 25-16.

Mallory Palmer led the Eagles with nine kills while Lindsey Swansby notched a team-high 20 assists and Kim Lueck led the team with 13 digs.

Edgewood College had an opportunity to rebound when they faced St. Norbert College (12-4). The Eagles jumped out to a quick 5-3 lead, only to see the Green Knights roll off six straight points to take a 9-5 lead. The teams were tied at 16 before St. Norbert began to pull away. The Green Knights scored five out of the next six points and ultimately won the first set 25-19.

In the second set, the Green Knights earned a 16-11 lead before the Eagles called for timeout. Out of the timeout, the Eagles rolled off five straight points to tie the set. Nevertheless, St. Norbert bounced right back and ran off six consecutive points to take a commanding 22-16 lead. The Green Knights went on to take the set 25-19.

With the Eagles trailing 12-9 in the third set, Lueck came to the service line and brought Edgewood College back. She served seven straight points to give Edgewood College a 16-12 lead and force a St. Norbert timeout. The Green Knights came back to tie the score at 19 and take a 21-19 lead before Edgewood College came back. The Eagles tied the set at 21 and 22 before St. Norbert scored the final three points to take the set 25-22.

For the Eagles, Palmer led the team with 15 kills, while Aryn Wellnitz was the next closest Eagle with six kills in the match. Lindsey Swansby recorded 29 assists while Lueck was the only Eagle to reach double digits in digs with 10.
