LA CROSSE, Wis. - Mallory Palmer struck again with another 20-kill, 20-dig performance as the Edgewood College volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Viterbo University triangular. The Eagles fell behind two sets to none against Robert Morris University (Chicago), but rallied for a five-set 3-2 victory. In the second match, the Eagles fell to the host V-Hawks 3-0.
Much like their last home match against Wisconsin Lutheran College, the Eagles dropped the first two sets to Robert Morris 25-15 and 25-18, but rebounded to win the match with victories of 25-19, 26-24 and 15-11 in the decisive set. Palmer, who set a rally-scoring era school record with 26 kills against Wisconsin Lutheran, pounded home 20 kills with an attack percentage of .233. She also racked up 21 digs. Jessica Martin and Bre Swiertz had seven kills apiece, with Swiertz committing just one error. Lindsey Swansby dished up 43 assists, while Kim Lueck and Sam Himmelspach had 36 and 26 digs, respectively.
The late match belonged to the V-Hawks from the start, as they swept three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-13 and 25-15. Palmer led the team in kills for the seventh time in their last eight matches with nine kills. Swiertz added four kills and Laura Sweeney posted a team-best seven digs against Viterbo University (19-3).
Edgewood College (4-8, 2-0 NAC) will participate at the UW-Platteville Invitational, beginning Friday, before returning to Northern Athletics Conference play next week.
