MADISON, Wis. - The Edgewood College women's tennis team extended their Northern Athletics Conference dual match winning streak to 15 straight with a pair of wins in their home opener on Saturday. The Eagles blanked Alverno College 9-0 in the morning before topping Wisconsin Lutheran College 8-1 in the afternoon.
Early morning rain showers moved the match with Alverno indoors to the John Powless Tennis Center, but didn't dampen the Eagles momentum. Edgewood College rolled through three doubles matches, including 8-1 wins by Amber Hemp and Jessi Ditzler at No. 2 and Brittany Storhoff and Ali Diamond-Tumbush at the No. 3 flight.
In singles play, Hannah Pincsak earned the 40th singles victory of her career with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Amanda Almquist at the No. 1 position. Pincsak is just the second player in Edgewood College history to win 40 singles matches, joining 2010 graduate Kelsey Steinhorst who has a school record 58 victories. Ditzler also won her No. 4 singles match 6-0, 6-0.
With the courts dry and the sun peeking through the clouds, Edgewood College (6-3, 5-0 NAC) moved back outdoors to their new home at Rennebohm Park for a match with Wisconsin Lutheran College. The all-freshman doubles pair of Kristen Boone and Diamond-Tumbush helped the Eagles to a 3-0 lead after doubles with an 8-2 win at the No. 3 slot.
In singles play, Shae Beckwith, Amber Hemp and Ditzler each won their seventh consecutive singles match. Beckwith had the toughest challenge at No. 3 singles, defeating the Warriors' Emily Pearson 6-4, 7-5. Boone won the first collegiate singles match of her career with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Tiffani Rohan at No. 6. Only a win at No. 1 singles by Wisconsin Lutheran's Katheyn Hendee prevented a second shutout of the day for the Eagles.
Edgewood College's next match will be a trip north to face Lakeland College on Tuesday. The Eagles will return home for a meeting with Rockford College on Thursday afternoon at Rennebohm Park.
