MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Edgewood College volleyball team may be improving, but they don't have the wins to show for it just yet. The Eagles brutal non-conference schedule continued with a pair of losses at the Augsburg College Invitational. First, the host Auggies topped the Eagles 3-0, followed by 12th-ranked UW-Eau Claire winning by the same score.

In the opener, Edgewood College (1-5) had their best hitting percentage of the match in the first set, scoring seven kills with just three errors for a .111 percentage. However, Augsburg College (6-3) hit .171 for the match and took all three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-22, 25-19. Sophomore Mallory Palmer turned in a strong performance with a team-high seven kills against just one error. Freshman Katie Wedvick chipped in four kills and hit .308 for the match. Kim Lueck led four Eagles with double-digit digs, recording 14. Freshman setter Lindsey Swansby dished out 15 assists in the loss.

Against UW-Eau Claire, the Eagles' fourth ranked opponent in their first six matches, Edgewood College dropped the three sets 25-17, 25-14, 25-23. The Blugolds hit a whopping .515 for the first set and .363 for the match. The Eagles responded in the third set with their best offense of the tournament totaling 10 kills and hitting .149. Wedvick led the Eagles in kills with four, while Swansby and Aryn Wellnitz added three apiece. Laura Sweeney took over setting duties and handed out 13 assists.

Edgewood College will be back at Si Melby Hall on Saturday morning for a 9:00 a.m. match against St. Benedict (Minn.). The Eagles will finish the tournament with a placement match in the afternoon. Edgewood College opens Northern Athletics Conference play next Tuesday with a home match against Wisconsin Lutheran College.
