Eagles win doubles, but lose match to Vikings

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Edgewood College women's tennis team completed their final regular season match on Sunday in preparation for the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships. The Eagles won two of three doubles matches, but fell to Augustana College (Ill.) 6-3. Their final scheduled match against the host, Loras College, was rained out while the match was in progress. No make-up date will be scheduled.

Everything was looking up for Edgewood College (12-13) during the doubles portion of the match with the Augustana College (14-12). The Eagles' Bridget Prendergast and Kelsey Steinhorst  defeated Tricia Sapio and Krista Panko 8-4 at No. 2 doubles, while the Eagles' No. 3 team of Brittany Storhoff and Jessi Ditzler claimed an 8-3 victory in their match.

However, the Vikings assumed control in the singles portion. Steinhorst lost a narrow 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 decision at No. 1 singles to Jenna Richardson. Only Amber Hemp at No. 2 singles was able to win her match, downing Sapio 7-5, 6-2.

Edgewood College will have another week of practice before learning their NCAA Regional site and first round opponent. The Eagles will compete in one of eight regional competitions with the winners advancing to the NCAA Division III Championship Finals in Fredricksburg, Va.
