LAKE GENEVA, Wis. - At the MSOE/Aurora Invitational, the Edgewood College men's golf team shot their season-low 18-hole team total and their season-low 36-hole total in their final tune up for the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. The Eagles were one shot off the lead after the first day, but ultimately settled for fourth place in the 15-team event.
On Sunday, at the Grand Geneva Resorts Highlands course four Eagles shot sub-80 rounds.
Brent Quade and
Logan Kranz each fired a 72 to share second place individually after the first round.
Andrew Cobb and
Mike Schilling each shot a 77, while
Mike Battista rounded out the group with an 82. The Eagles team score of 298 was their lowest total of the season by 12 strokes, and best single round score since shooting 297 on October 4, 2008 at the Benedictine Invitational.
However, the Eagles difficulties on day two continued as the tournament moved to the Grand Geneva Resorts Brute course.
Andrew Cobb and
Mike Battista each improved their scores, but the other three team members all shot in the 80s. Cobb and Quade finished with a two-day total of 153 to tie for 10th place. Kranz finished with a scored 156, followed by Schilling at 158 and Battista with 160.
Edgewood College finished with a team score of 614, which landed the Eagles in fourth place behind UW-Eau Claire (599), Carthage (600) and MSOE (613). The Eagles hadn't shot lower than 614 since last year's Augsburg Fall Invitational where they scored 611.
The 2010 Northern Athletics Conference championship gets underway on Sunday at Whistling Straits Golf Club near Haven, Wis. The NAC Tournament will be contested on the Irish Course which is located next the Straits Course where the 2010 PGA Championship was played in August.
