Consistent Eagles claim NAC Championship

Meet Results

HAVEN, Wis. - The Edgewood College men's golf team has been fighting a pattern of great first rounds, followed by less than stellar second rounds all season. Fortunately, the Eagles figured out the right moment to correct their second day struggles. The Eagles shot 315 on each day and claimed their third conference title in school history at the Northern Athletics Conference Fall Championship.

Edgewood College sat in third place after Friday, five shots behind MSOE and three shots back of Benedictine University. However, while the two leaders shot more than 20 strokes higher on Monday, Edgewood College turned a matching 315 for a two-day score of 630. Head coach Gary Oftedahl's squad claimed the title by 11 strokes over MSOE (641) and 20 strokes over Benedictine (650).

On the first day, it was Logan Kranz who nearly single-handedly kept the Eagles in contention by shooting a 71 while none of his teammates broke 80. On the second day, Kranz struggled to an 86, but Andrew Cobb, Mike Schilling and Mike Battista all shot in the 70's. Cobb finished the tournament with a score of 155, which was good enough for a fourth place finish. Kranz hung on for a top-five finish of his own scoring 157. Schilling ended up tied for eighth with a score of 160. Battista and Brent Quade completed the team with scores of 165 and 168, respectively. All five Edgewood College golfers placed in the top 20 in the 50 player event.

Cobb, Quade, Kranz and Schilling all earned all-conference honors by virtue of their performances this season. For Quade, the honor marked his second consecutive all-NAC award. In addition, Schilling earned the league's Freshman of the Year award.

Scores from the NAC Fall Championship also carry over to the NAC Spring Automatic Qualifying meet next May. The combined scores from the two events will determine the NAC's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships.
