JANESVILLE, Wis. – On a weekend with beautiful weather for a golf tournament, the Edgewood College men's golf team finished tied for second place in the 17 team Culver's Edgewood College Fall Classic. The Eagles posed a score of 610 (+42) that tied them with Madison Area Technical College.
The Eagles had two separate teams that competed in the tournament. The Red team finished tied for second and the Black team placed sixth. Jeff Kaether was the Eagles top golfer over the weekend, shooting an even par 71 in round one and a 78 (+7) on day two for a 149 (+7) total and a fourth place finish.
Logan Kranz posted an even par 71 on day one and finished with a total of 152 tying him for 13th place. Mike Battista and Brent Quade finished in a tie for 17th with two-day scores of 153 for the Eagles Red squad.
UW-Stout won the tournament for the third consecutive year with a score of 602. The Eagles have finished runner-up to the Blue Devils all three years. Edgewood College and MATC finished eight strokes back while Aurora University took fourth place with a score of 612. Augsburg College finished 14 strokes back for fifth place and the Edgewood College Black team took sixth, 20 strokes back.
Individually, MATC's Andrew Steinhofer posted the low score of the tournament. He shot a two-over par with a 73 on Friday and Saturday he posted a -1, 70, which was the only round under par on day two, for a total of 143. Derek Holmes of UW-Stout and Jonathan Walsh of St. Olaf College finished tied for second one stroke behind Steinhofer with scores of 144.
The Eagles will next be in action on September 12-13 at the Augsburg Fall Invitational in Lake City, Minn.
