NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Playing 18 holes of competitive golf in day is tough, but playing 36 is even tougher. The Edgewood College men's golf team played in a rare 36-hole, one day event at the Cress Creek Collegiate Invitational, placing fifth of 12 teams with a two round total of 642.
Sophomore Mike Battista finished his third straight tournament at 11-over par, placing eighth with rounds of 80 and 75. For Battista, it was his first top-10 finish in three events this season. Mark Fields bounced back from a tough morning round to shoot 77 in the afternoon and place 23rd in the field of 75 players. Glenn Nowell shot 164 which placed him 35th at the Cress Creek Country Club. Andrew Gutzman and Adam Kirkenmeier shot identical scores of 167 to finish in 41st place.
The Eagles will return to action next Sunday and Monday at the Frank Wrigglesworth Invitational, hosted by UW-Eau Claire. The first round tees off on Sunday at noon.
