MONTICELLO, Minn. - The Edgewood College men's golf team battled wet, sloppy conditions through the first round of the Saint John's Spring Invitational before the second round was called off. The Eagles placed 14th of 17 teams competing in the meet with a single round total of 323.
In a challenging field of 94 golfers, Mark Fields was the only Eagle to go under 80, firing an eight over par 79 at the Monticello Country Club. Fields finished tied for 46th overall. Jeff Kaether hit 80 on the head to place 51st, but was playing as an individual so his score did not count in the Eagles' team score.
Logan Kranz and Brent Quade shot identical 81's and placed 62nd. Mike Battista and Aaron Gavin rounded the Edgewood College squad shooting an 82 and an 83, respectively.
The Eagles will finish their 2008-09 season on Friday, May 1 when they host their only event of the spring. The Edgewood College Spring Invitational will feature four teams in an 18-hole event at Bishops Bay Country Club in Middleton, Wis.
