Eagles second day rally falls one shot short

AURORA, Ill. - Edgewood College men's golf team turned in the best second day score at the Northern Athletics Conference Automatic Qualifier meet, but still came up just one shot short of MSOE in the final tally. Aaron Gavin and Logan Kranz finished second and third respectively to lead the Eagles.

The Eagles shot 321 on Tuesday falling just short of making up their six stroke deficit to the Raiders. Gavin followed a four-over par 76 on Monday with a 79 on Tuesday to place second, just three shots behind medalist Andrew Delaney of Benedictine University. Kranz fired a 76 on Tuesday and finished with 156.

Mark Fields finished 12th with a two-day total of 162, followed closely by teammate Mike Battista in 14th with 163. Brent Quade rounded out the Eagle fivesome with a 164, placing all five Eagle in the top 16 out of 41 golfers.

MSOE totaled 326 on Tuesday and 633 for the event. When added to last fall's NAC Championship, the Raiders scored 1,250 over four rounds to claim the NAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships in Port St. Lucie, Fla. The Eagles four-round total was 1,298 placing them fourth overall.

Edgewood College will travel across the border next Saturday for a dual match in Monticello, Minn. with St. John's University.
