Box Score

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Edgewood College and Concordia College (Moorhead) combined for 15 runs in the final two innings, but a six-run eighth inning for the Eagles was the decisive blow in a 13-9 extra inning win. The second game of the doubleheader was cancelled after five innings due to the Metrodome's time limit rules.

Edgewood College seemed to have sealed the game in the seventh when Alex Berta and Mitch Mogensen drove in runs to give the Eagles a 7-3 lead heading to the bottom of the last inning. However, the Cobbers touched reliever Rick Walsh for four runs to send the game to extra innings tied at seven.

The Eagles responded with six runs in the top of the eighth, highlighted by Seth Astroth's two-run double and Mogenson's second two-run hit of the game, this one a double. Blake Hunt got the last two outs in the seventh and survived a last-ditch Cobber rally in the eighth to get the victory.

Astroth and Jimy Landwehr had three hits apiece to lead a 16-hit attack for the Eagles. Berta, Mogensen and Cory McCullick each had two hits, with Mogensen driving in a career-high four runs and Berta three. Scott Winters started the game and stymied the Cobbers for four innings giving up one hit and striking out seven. Eagle pitchers struck out 13 Concordia hitters in the game.

For Edgewood College head coach Al Brisack, it was his 200th career victory for the Eagles. In his 10th season, Brisack is 200-173 with two conference championships.

The Eagles will leave on Tuesday for their annual spring break trip to Florida. Edgewood College will return to action on Friday when they face Keystone College (Pa.) in Auburndale, Fla.
