Box Score

MADISON, Wis. - Sophomore Jeff Barczak scored a career-high 20 points and senior Jon Ciche swatted eight shots as the Edgewood College men's basketball team logged a convincing win over Lakeland College 86-66. The Eagles shot 52.6 percent from the field and 82.6 percent from the three-point line to win their second straight game.

Edgewood College (5-7, 3-1 NAC) dominated the first half, as Barczak scored the Eagles' first seven points of the game to spark a 23-4 run. The early burst gave the Eagles a 26-8 lead just 11 minutes into the game. The Eagles were 10-for-15 from the field over that stretch, while the Muskies missed 14 of their first 18 shots. The Eagles hot shooting would continue until halftime as the Eagles lead 44-25 on 59.3 percent shooting. Barczak would total 11 points in the first 20 minutes.

The Eagles scored the first two buckets of the second half to force a Muskie timeout, but Lakeland responded with a 12-2 run to trim the Eagles' lead to 51-37. However, back-to-back jumpers by John Schuster and Kent Faurote got the Eagles back on track. Edgewood College pushed the lead as large as 24 points with four minutes to go before settling on the 86-66 final.

Postgame comments from Aaron Ritschard

Behind Barczak's career-high 20 points were four other Eagles in double figures. Schuster scored 14 points, while Faurote came off the bench to chip in 12 points. Aaron Ritschard and Ben Wisniewski each had 11 points. Ritschard also added a career-high eight assists. Ciche, Edgewood College's all-time leader in blocked shots, nearly achieved a double-double without reaching 10 points, as he blocked eight shots and pulled down 12 rebounds to go with six points. The Eagles had a season-low 10 turnovers.

Lakeland College (6-4, 2-2 NAC) was led by Josh Regal who poured in a game-high 21 points. Jake Schwarz added 17 points. With the exception of Regal, the Muskies were hampered by poor free throw shooting. Besides Regal who went 8-for-8 from the line, the rest of the Muskies shot just 47.6 percent (10-for-21) at the stripe.

Edgewood College will head to Milwaukee on Saturday, for a shootout with Wisconsin Lutheran College. The Eagles and Warriors are two of the highest scoring teams in the Northern Athletics Conference. Tipoff at the Recreation Complex is at 7:15 p.m.
