LISLE, Ill. - The Edgewood College soccer team was so anxious to erase the memory of Wednesday's loss to UW-Stevens Point, that even a two-hour rain and lightning delay wasn't going to worry them. The Eagles stormed out of the soggy gate with four first half goals and cruised to a 5-0 victory in their Northern Athletics Conference opener against Benedictine University.

Freshman Brittany Drewiske put the Eagles ahead to stay just 12 minutes into the game, scoring off a pass from Tami Hagensick to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Hagensick would finish the match with two assists.

The Eagles struck again in the 28th minute, scoring two goals just 23 seconds apart. Elaine Gerry tallied the first one, and Clare Schumacher notched the second, her first goal of the season, off an assist from Laura Marx

Gerry then capped off the first half with a second unassisted goal 10 minutes before the break. The freshman from Prairie du Sac leads the team with six goals through the first five game of the season.

In the second half, junior Elyse Clouthier added an additional insurance, collecting a pass from Hagensick and scoring her second goal of the season.

The Eagles outshot Benedictine University (0-3) 28-9 and held a 10-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Edgewood College will try to go 2-0 in the league when they travel to Marian University on Wednesday.
