WATERTOWN, Wis. (April, 7, 2008) - It took 17 days and three postponements before Edgewood College could play their first game in Wisconsin, and it appears that Eagle pitchers Matt Krueger and Kyle Lode took out their frustration on Maranatha Baptist hitters. Krueger and Lode each fired a complete game shutout as the Eagles buried the Crusaders 17-0 and 11-0 on a chilly day at Washington Park in Watertown.

Krueger, a sophomore righthander from Madison, scattered eight hits over seven innings as the Eagles ended the game early due to the 10-run rule. Krueger struck out seven Maranatha Baptist (3-9, 0-6 NAC) batters and walked just one. At the plate, the Eagles burst out of the gates with one run in the first and six in the second. Junior Matt Werner went four-for-five at the plate, including a double, while freshman Matt Shilney had three hits and drove in four runs. Steve Binder went three-for-three at the plate and Cory McCullick stole three bases.

Taking Krueger's lead, Lode bested his teammate mowing down Crusader hitters on his way to a one-hit shutout. Only a third inning single by Bryan Oliver prevented a no-hitter. The freshman righthander, struck out five and walked just two, facing 24 batters, only three over the minimum. Edgewood College (9-8, 2-0 NAC) tallied runs in all but the sixth inning on their way to the win. Sophomore shortstop Jimy Landwehr rapped out four hits in five at-bats, including a double and drove in a team-high three runs. Six Eagles had at least two hits and McCullick swiped his 13th base of the season.

Edgewood College will return to action on Tuesday with their home opening doubleheader against Concordia University Wisconsin. Both games can be heard live on EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com with the first pitch slated for 2 p.m.
