GENEVA, Ill. (Apr. 20, 2008) - Freshman pitcher Kyle Lode continued his stellar play, picking up his third consecutive win in helping the Eagles earn a split with Northern Athletics Conference rival Aurora University. Lode extended his streak of not allowing an earned run to 24 innings in a 6-1 Eagles' victory. The Spartans scored the final nine runs of the first game to claim a 9-3 win.
Lode held Aurora University to just six hits in the second game, allowing just two Spartans to advance beyond first base in the first eight innings. Edgewood College (15-11, 7-3 NAC) played effective small ball scoring two runs in the third and fifth and single runs in the sixth and ninth. Justin Dahmen turned another strong performance going three-for-five and stealing three bases. Cory McCullick picked up two hits including a double and Ryan Siebert had a pair of RBI singles in four at-bats. Matt Shilney and Alex Berta also had a pair of singles.
In the day's opener, Edgewood College ran out to a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning, but defense let the Eagles down in the eighth inning. Karl Reynolds drove home Matt Werner for the game's first run and later scored along with McCullick when Dahmen reached on an error. Aurora University (19-12, 11-5 NAC) tied the game with runs in the sixth and seventh before blowing the game open in the eighth. The Spartans scored six unearned runs in the frame thanks to three Eagles errors. Cody Flynn was the losing pitcher despite not being charged with an earned run in seven and one-third innings. The Eagles mustered just five hits highlighted by Berta's second inning triple.
Edgewood College will return home for a Wednesday doubleheader against Marian College.
