SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (Apr. 15, 2008) - A night after hitting 13 doubles, Edgewood College could muster just one extra-base hit, but still earned a split with Dominican University. The Eagles dropped game one 8-3, but scored five runs in the fourth inning to claim the second game 7-5.

Edgewood College (13-10, 6-2 NAC) held Dominican to just four hits in the first game, but the Stars managed to squeeze eight runs out of those four hits. The Eagles scored single runs in the second and fourth when Matt Werner smacked an RBI double and Steve Binder singled through the left side of the infield to cut the Stars lead to 3-2. The key damage was done in the fifth when Dominican University (8-15, 3-8 NAC) scored five runs on two hits, a walk, a hit batter, a balk and a throwing error on a pickoff attempt. Edgewood College put together another threat in the seventh inning, when Justin Dahmen drove Binder home with a single, but Stars pitcher Colby Batchelor coaxed Matt Shilney into an inning-ending double play ground ball.

In the second game, Edgewood College used 12 base hits, all singles, to down the Stars 7-5. Tied 2-2 in the fourth inning, the Eagles got RBI singles from Alex Elliot and Dahmen to go with three errors on the Stars to open up a 7-2 lead. Dominican University scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to cut the lead to 7-4 and seemed to be on the verge of a big inning in the seventh. Three singles cut the lead to 7-5 and left runners on first and second with one out. However, Werner picked the runner off first from his catching position for the second out and reliever Bill Dictus struck out the batter to end the threat. Starter Nathan Marlowe went six innings, allowed four earned runs and struck out six to earn the victory. Dahmen went 3-for-4 and stole his 10th base of the season.

Edgewood College will step out of conference play and travel to UW-Platteville for a single game on Wednesday afternoon. Edgewood College will be back home for an NAC doubleheader on Saturday against Benedictine University. First pitch on Saturday is slated for noon at Stampfl Field in Verona.
