(Mar. 2, 2008) – Edgewood College salvaged the final game of their four-game weekend trip to the Metrodome, defeating Augsburg College 4-1. The Eagles dropped the first game of the doubleheader 10-4.
The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie in the second game. Cory McCullick and Matt Shilney singled before Ryan Siebert walked to load the bases with one out. Dan Gugel hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score McCullick and give the Eagles a 2-1 lead. After Steve Binder was hit by a pitch, Matt Werner singled to left field scoring Shilney. Justin Dahmen was then hit by a pitch to force in the final run of the game.
McCullick and Werner each picked up two hits in the game, with Werner collecting two RBIs. Kyle Lode started the game, going five and one-third innings yielding one run on three hits and striking out three. Rick Walsh picked up the win in relief, throwing the final one and two-thirds innings.
In the first game, Augsburg College scored three runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth to snap a 3-3 tie. McCullick scored two runs and stroked a pair of singles in three at-bats. Darren Besch drove in two runs with a pair of RBI groundouts. Bill Dictus pitched four and one-third innings, allowing four earned runs and picked up the loss.
Edgewood College will return to the Metrodome next Saturday for a doubleheader with Hamline University (Minn.). First pitch is set for 10 p.m.
