ADRIAN, Mich. – The Edgewood College women's basketball certainly wanted to leave the state of Michigan with one win to show for the weekend, but Adrian College limited the Eagles to just over 30 percent shooting to win the consolation game at their own Adrian College Tipoff Tournament 66-57.

Although the Bulldogs held a lead much of the first half, Edgewood College remained in striking distance. Two free throws by freshman Ashley Averkamp cut Adrian College's lead to 28-24 with 3:23 to play in the first half.

However, the Bulldogs would go on a 15-4 run over the final three minutes of the first half and the first four minutes of the second half to give them a 43-28 lead. The Eagles were not able to get the lead back to single digits until the final minute of the game, despite matching Adrian's second half total of 31 points.

Edgewood College (0-2) was led in scoring by senior Megan Scheele with 12 points, but it was freshman Brianna Droessler who provided a breakout game. Droessler notched her first career double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore Shae Beckwith also scored 11 points on the strength of three three-point baskets. Amber Hemp handed out a game-high six assists. The Eagles shot just 31.3 percent from the field and committed 27 turnovers.

Adrian College (1-1) was led by Megan Bouwens who scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 37.5 percent on the night and committed 26 turnovers.

Scheele, with 35 points in two games, was named to the All-Tournament team, joining Bouwens, Brittany Skolnicki (Heidelberg), Yvette Hunter (Notre Dame), Ashley Carney (Notre Dame) and tournament most valuable player Amanda Brown of Notre Dame College (Ohio).

Edgewood College will now have seven days of practice before their next game, a challenging match-up with UW-Whitewater, the nation's #1-ranked team. The Eagles travel to Whitewater on Monday, November 24 for a 7:00 p.m. game.
