Eagles slip three spots in second round, finish fifth

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Edgewood College men's golf team matched their best round of the season on Saturday, shooting a 297 at the Benedictine Invitational. However, the Eagles struggled on the second day, shooting 314 and finished in fifth place. Still, Edgewood College shot their lowest 36-hole team total of the season with a 611.

The Eagles were a tightly bunched group in the final standings, placing all five golfers within seven shots of each other. Aaron Gavin had an opening round 71 which placed him second overall, but fell back to 19th place with an 80 on Sunday. Mark Fields was two shots behind Gavin with a 153. Andrew Gutzman recorded a pair of 77's and placed 36th overall. Glen Nowell and Logan Kranz rounded out the team with a 155 and a 158, respectively.

Edgewood College will now begin their final preparations for the Northern Athletics Conference championships which begin on Monday, October 13 at Whistling Straits Golf Club in Kohler, Wis.
