Eagles down Raiders, blank Warriors in NACC opener

MADISON, Wis. – Women's Tennis kicked off NACC action with a home double feature Saturday in Madison, Wis. They faced off with the MSOE Raiders and the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors. The Eagles (2-2, 2-0 NACC) started off on the right foot, taking down the Raiders (0-1, 0-1) 5-2 before defeating the Warriors (0-1, 0-1) with a clean 7-0 sweep.
 
MATCH ONE: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 5, MSOE 2
- Maya Connaughty/Gabby Schmidtmann had the wind at their backs in a 6-2 doubles victory in the third slot. Isabella Kowalak/Sophia Perret followed up with a 6-4 win to lock up the doubles point in second billing.
 
- Hattie Plenty/Kaitlyn Narkis conceded a 6-4 battle in no. 1 doubles.
 
- The Eagles and Raiders traded blows to start singles. Perret rolled 6-1, 6-1 in no. 4 singles, while Kowalak conceded a 6-1, 6-0 defeat in second billing.
 
- Edgewood University put the match away in the fifth and sixth slots. Connaughty earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory in the sixth slot before Schmidtmann wrapped up the win with a 6-3, 6-2 result.
   
- Plenty bounced back with a 6-2, 7-5 win in no. 1 singles. Narkis fought hard in a 2-6, 7-6 (11-9), 1-0 (11-9) setback in third singles.
 
MATCH TWO: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 7, WISCONSIN LUTHERAN 0
- The Eagles kicked off doubles in dominant fashion. Kowalak/Connaughty in No. 2 doubles and Perret/Schmidtmann in no. 3 doubles earned 6-1 victories.
 
- Plenty/Narkis followed with a 6-2 final in top billing.
 
- The good times kept rolling in singles. Plenty battled back for a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) win in no. 1 singles, while Kowalak had a strong showing in a 6-0, 6-1 battle in the second slot.
 
- Narkis earned a 6-3, 6-1 result in the third slot. Perret added a 6-1, 6-1 victory in no. 4 singles.
 
- Connaughty and Sarah Emory finished the day strong. Connaughty won 6-0, 6-3 in the fifth slot, while Emory added a 6-1, 6-3 tally in no. 6 singles.
   
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Connaughty's victory in doubles against the Raiders was her first as an Eagles.

NACC action continues tomorrow at Marian. First serve in Fond du Lac, Wis. is to be determined.
