No. 6 Blugolds too much for Eagles in Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Women's Volleyball kicked off the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament Friday night in Eau Claire, Wis. They faced off with the UW-Eau Claire Blugolds, ranked no. 6 in the latest AVCA Division III national poll. The Blugolds (3-1) put together an impressive performance, winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-12) over the Eagles (3-1).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UW-Eau Claire jumped out to a 9-4 lead, but the Edgewood University offense cut the edge down to 9-7. The Blugolds gradually pulled away in chunks, leading by as many as nine at points as they took a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
- A 5-1 rally kept momentum going for UW-Eau Claire early in the second set. The Blugolds lead by as many as 12 points as they earned a commanding set two win.
 
- An 8-2 barrage from UW-Eau Claire kept the good times going for the nationally-ranked hosts in the third set. The Blugolds finished off the set and match on a 10-3 sprint.
 
- UW-Eau Claire outhit the Eagles .242-to-.000.
 
- Mya Cinnamo impressed. She swung for nine kills and no errors on 21 attempts, hitting .429 on the evening.
 
- Alex Kiebel and Hannah Thole formed an effective setting tandem for the Blugolds offense with 17 and 13 assists respectively.
 
- Lilli Hagg tallied seven blocks.
 
- Natalie Murphy shined for Edgewood University in the loss, earning eight kills on a .278 hitting percentage.
 
- Marina Hosticka earned five blocks to pace the Eagles.

Edgewood University continues action in Eau Claire, Wis. tomorrow. They'll take on Coe and St. Catherine in the Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament. First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m.
