First Half attack lifts Eagles past Spartans

DUBUQUE, IOWA – Nine goals before halftime gave Edgewood University men's lacrosse a 14-10 victory over the University of Dubuque on Wednesday evening. The Eagles held on for the win, despite eight goals scored by the Spartans after the break. Zach Thomas, Gavin Williams, and James Borgardt lifted the Eagles attack, while Logan Searles was a consistent force in net in the NACC victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (2-9, 2-5 NACC) came out on fire in the first quarter on Wednesday evening. The Eagles netted a whopping six goals in the first 15 minutes. Williams scored first for the Eagles, assisted by Dominic Derocker. Borgardt, assisted by Thomas gave the Eagles an early 2-0 lead. The University of Dubuque (4-8, 2-5 NACC) scored just once in the first quarter before the Eagles found the back of the net four-straight times to end the quarter with a 6-1 lead. Edgewood University only allowed eight shots from the Spartans in the opening quarter.

- The Eagles continued to impress in the second quarter, scoring three times. Williams, Wyatt Heabel, and Thomas each found the back of the net to give the Eagles a confident 9-2 advantage at the break.

- Searles was impressive in the third quarter, making nine saves and helping solidify a 9-5 lead going into the final quarter. Dubuque scored three times and held the Eagles to just seven shots and no goals after the break.

- The Eagles and Spartans went toe-to-toe in the final 15 minutes, both scoring five times. Despite an even final quarter, the Eagles early led helped solidify the victory.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Thomas led the Eagles attack with five goals and two assists. He added a team-high eight ground balls.

- Neville led the Eagles defense with four caused turnovers and six ground balls.

- Williams scored four goals.

- Borgardt dished out a game-high four assists and collected six ground balls.

- Searles collected 20 saves on Wednesday afternoon. It is the third game of the season with 20 or more saves for the junior.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Wednesday's win is the first in program history over Dubuque. The Spartans have won the past four meetings.

- Searles eclipsed 350 saves on Wednesday night. He is just the second Eagle to do so in program history.

THE OPPOSITION
- Campbel Smith led the Spartans with five goals.

- Nate Richardson dished out three assists and scored twice.

- John Lewis went 13-for-16 at the faceoff and collected nine ground balls. Owen Lang went 8-for-10 at the faceoff.

- Nolan Nagy posted 14 saves in net for Dubuque.

- Edgewood University will host MSOE for Senior Day on Saturday, April 11. Action is set for 1:00 p.m. from Edgewood University Field.
