NACC Men's Volleyball Quarterfinal Preview

MADISON, Wis. – Men's Volleyball hits the road once more for the NACC Tournament Tuesday. After earning the six seed, the Eagles will head to Aurora, Ill. to take on the third-seeded Aurora Spartans.

HOW THEY GOT HERE
- Edgewood University put together five-straight wins in NACC action to help clinch their berth in the NACC Tournament once more. They were undefeated in five set matches, taking down Concordia Chicago, St. Norbert, and Concordia Wisconsin in five-set thrillers in conference play and North Park in a nonconference tilt as they clutched out another postseason showing.

- Aurora, ranked no. 12 in the latest AVCA Division III poll, finished with a 10-2 mark in conference action. Their only two NACC losses came in five-setters against Dominican and MSOE as they earned a first-round home match.

- The Eagles rode a strong blocking game, finishing ninth in the nation and second in the NACC with 2.204 blocks per set. Owen Hartjes, the first Edgewood University player to eclipse 200 total blocks, paced the team with .896 blocks per set. Owen Voigt posted .87 blocks per set.

- Ethan Hoffert led the way for the Eagles offense with 8.57 assists per set. Cade Schueller paced Edgewood University with 3.04 kills per set.

- Oakley Griggs finished seventh in the NACC and was the Eagles' leader with .392 aces per set. He also tallied 2.76 kills per set.

- Tanner Sindorf and Jack Mullane made an effective back line combo with 2.16 and 2.01 digs per set respectively.

- The Spartans led the NACC and were seventh in the nation with 2.268 blocks per set. Soloman Dali and Ammar Brzovic were second and third in the NACC in blocks per set with 1.022 and .913 respectively.

- Aurora held opponents to a .189 hitting percentage, atop the NACC. Luke Brannigan posted 2.3 digs per set, good for ninth in the league.

- SJ Nelson did a bit of everything. He paced the Spartans with 3.46 kills per set while also recording .667 blocks per set and 2.14 digs per set.

- Several Aurora players contributed at setter. Luke Dwyer led the group with 401. Logan Rouwer and AJ Vescova tallied 315 and 268 respectively.

LAST MEETING
- Aurora won back on March 28 on their home court, sweeping the Eagles 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19). They outhit Edgewood University .338-to-.043.

- Brouwer tallied 28 assists, anchoring an offensive that featured six hitters with three or more kills and a .286 hitting percentage or better. Nelson paced all hitters with 11 kills.

- Xavier Zukley and Brzovic posted five blocks each.

- Hoffert earned 23 assists. Sindorf recorded 10 digs.

THE FIELD
- Undefeated in NACC play and ranked 14th in the nation, MSOE enters the NACC Tournament as the top overall seed as they host the eight seed Concordia Wisconsin. The Raiders headed the NACC and were fourth in the nation with 13.14 kills per set. They also paced Division III with 12.41 assists per set.  Parker Rings anchored a high-octane MSOE offense with 9.77 assists per set., while Callan Harris was 23rd in Division III and second in the NACC with 3.69 kills per set. Parker Butterfass was efficient for the visiting Falcons with a .410 hitting percentage, 13th in the nation.

- Tied for 20th in the latest AVCA poll, Dominican returns to the NACC Tournament as the second seed as they host the seventh-seeded Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks. The Stars shined with a .313 hitting percentage, good for third in Division III. Their 12.61 kills per set were also 10th in the nation. Thomas Hirsch paced the NACC with a .484 hitting percentage and 1.045 blocks per set. He led Division III in hitting percentage and was seventh in blocks per set. Maxcimo Dowling was a focal point of the Illinois Tech attack with 8.56 attacks per set, 27th in the nation.

- Benedictine hosts Wisconsin Lutheran for the 4-5 matchup. Jacob Thomas impressed for Benedictine with a .398 hitting percentage, fifth in the NACC and 17th in Division III. Jordan Carenas shined in the back line with 3.02 digs per set, leading the NACC and 13th in the nation. The Warriors were dangerous with their serves, 1.88 aces per set heading the conference and 20th in Division III. Brady Pichler was a dynamo for the Wisconsin Lutheran offense, atop the NACC in aces per set (.536), kills per set (3.87), and points per set (4.83).

NACC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
- The appearance is the second for Edgewood University in program history and second-straight trip to the NACC Tournament.
 
- Since the inaugural tournament in 2018, Dominican has won four NACC Tournaments. Benedictine and MSOE have a postseason title each. Aurora is the defending tournament champion, defeating MSOE in last year's final.
