VERONA, Wis. – Baseball hosted a NACC showdown for Legacy Exteriors Senior & Alumni Day Saturday. They took on the Aurora Spartans in a conference doubleheader. The Spartans (25-11, 18-4 NACC) got the better of the Eagles (17-16, 11-9) with 10-3 and 13-9 victories.
GAME ONE: AURORA 10, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 3
- The Eagles struck first with a
Aidan Kammer RBI single to the shortstop in the first inning. The Spartans replied with an RBI single to left center in the second and a RBI double to left center in the third for a 2-1 lead, but a balk would send
Mac Vesperman home to even things up 2-2 after four.
- A four-run sixth inning for Aurora had the visitors rolling. While Edgewood University almost escaped with just a sacrifice fly to center field, a critical error would send in three more unearned runs. A
Dominic Lee bunt single cut the edge down to 6-3 after six.
- Two in the eighth and two in the ninth all but put the game away for the Spartans. A bases loaded jam in the eighth would net them two runs, including an RBI single. The Eagles would find themselves in bases-loaded trouble again in the ninth, with a hit by pitch and a sacrifice fly wrapping up the scoring.
- Joe Lukancic hit 3-for-5 as an impactful leadoff man in the Aurora order. Tyler Patton and Ryan Buck each posted a pair of RBIs.
- Connor Hogan clamped down on the Edgewood University lineup, pitching 8.1 innings with five strikeouts and three runs allowed.
GAME TWO: AURORA 13, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 9
- Once more the Eagles kicked off the scoring, a sacrifice fly from
Kyle Prindle to right field leaving them ahead 1-0 after one.
- A five-run second and a four-run third had the Spartans firmly in control. A single up the middle and a double down the left field line plated three in the second, with another Edgewood University mistake allowing two more to cross. Four more unearned runs would touch home for Aurora in the third.
- A
Ben Truby RBI double to left field in the fourth and a Prindle two-RBI double to right center in the fifth cut the edge down to 9-4. An RBI single to short and a two-RBI single up the middle in the seventh helped Aurora keep their distance.
- After
Jacob Carney tallied a pair with a single to left center in the seventh, the Eagles found their groove with a three-run eighth. A pair would score off of a miscue from the Spartans, including
Aiden Shumaker touching home. A bases loaded walk from Prindle and a Carney ground out cut the Aurora lead to 12-9.
- A wild pitch would add on another run for the Spartans in the ninth and Edgewood University was unable to come up with any more offense.
