BELOIT, Wis. – The Edgewood University men's lacrosse team took care of business on Wednesday evening, claiming an 8-5 win at Beloit to close out the regular season and clinch a spot in the NACC Tournament. The Eagles took advantage of a hot start and held on in the second half for the conference victory. Zach Thomas led the Eagles attack, while Logan Searles put together a strong performance in net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (4-11, 4-7 NACC) jumped out to a quick start on Wednesday evening, scoring five times in the first quarter and holding Beloit (5-10, 2-9 NACC) scoreless. Zach Thomas scored three times in the opening quarter, while Zane Neville and James Borgardt also found the back of the net for the Eagles 5-0 lead.
- Cole Conway and Sky Solig got Beloit on the scoreboard in the second quarter. Searles helped limit the damage from the Buccaneers, making five saves in the second quarter. Edgewood University led 5-2 into the break.
- Beloit outscored the Eagles 2-1 in the third quarter to bring the score to 6-4 going into the final 15 minutes. The Eagles put three shots on goal in the third, but none found the netting.
- Goals from James Borgardt and Zach Thomas in the final 12 minutes on Wednesday help solidify the Eagles victory. Beloit managed just one goal in the final 15 minutes. Edgewood University won all four faceoffs in the final quarter.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Thomas led the Eagles attack with four goals and one assist.
- Borgardt did a bit of everything, scoring twice, dishing out an assist, collected six ground balls, and going 7-for-14 at the faceoff.
- Searles collected 12 saves for the Eagles.
- Ryan Hanrahan collected five caused turnovers.
- Neville caused three turnovers, collected two ground balls and scored.

- Edgewood University claims their second-straight NACC Tournament Berth and first under head coach Mitch Wilkins.

- Liam Walker dished out two assists and scored once.
- Five different Buccaneers scored on Wednesday evening.
- Cristian Lewis went 9-for-15 at the faceoff and collected seven ground balls.
- Keegan Heikila caused three turnovers.
- Christian Moore recorded 13 saves in net for Beloit.
