First Quarter Attack lifts Eagles past Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. – Eight unanswered goals in the first quarter gave the Edgewood University women's lacrosse team the spark they needed to take down Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles defeated the Falcons 13-7 to clinch a spot in the NACC Tournament. Milli Shell and Christina Eloe combined for eight goals in the conference victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Edgewood University (6-10, 5-3 NACC) attack didn't hold back in the first quarter on Saturday, scoring eight goals and holding Concordia Wisconsin (7-7, 5-3 NACC) scoreless. Bella Braun was key in the quarter, making three saves, while the Eagles defense held the Falcons to just five shots in the opening 15 minutes. The Eagle attack was unstoppable, with Malak Daoud leading the way with the first goal at 14:24. Milli Shell scored three times in the opening quarter, while Christina Eloe, Kailey Smith and Paige Janicki also found the back of the net.

- Concordia Wisconsin scored their first goal four minutes into the second quarter. The Eagles continued their relentless attack, scoring four times and taking a 12-2 lead into halftime.

- The Falcons took advantage of Eagle turnovers in the third quarter and outscored the visiting team 4-1 after the break. Edgewood University only scored once in the final two quarters, but their early lead was enough to take home the win.

- Edgewood University put 20 shots on goal on Saturday, compared to just 14 from the Falcons.

- The Eagles won the draw control 13-9 in the conference contest.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Shell led the Eagles attack with four goals and one assist. The freshman added five draw controls.

- Eloe scored four times and added five draw controls, three ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

- Malak Daoud scored twice and added an assist.

- Paige Janicki added her third multi-goal game of the season, scoring twice.

- Bella Braun recorded 11 saves in net for the Eagles.

THE OPPOSITION
- Katelyn Cardinale led the Falcons attack with four goals.

- Emily Robertson collected a team-high five draw controls.

- Parks Cawthray recorded seven saves in net for the Falcons.  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Eloe now owns 100 goals in her career with the Eagles. The senior is just the second in program history to reach this century mark. Emma Raupp is the Eagles career goals leader with 245 in her three-year career.  

- Saturday's conference victory clinched a NACC tournament spot for Edgewood University. The Eagles will appear in the conference tournament for the fifth-straight season.

UP NEXT
- Edgewood University will close out conference action against Beloit on Wednesday. Action is set for 6:00 p.m. from Edgewood University Field at Reddan Park.
