VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood University softball team faced Concordia University Chicago on Saturday, welcoming the Cougars to Ceniti Park for a NACC twinbill. The Cougars swept the Eagles by scores of 3-2 and 15-8 in conference play.
CONCORDIA CHICAGO 3, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 2
- Concordia Chicago (11-17, 6-10 NACC) scored first on Saturday, plating two runs in the second frame for a 2-0 lead. The Cougars added a solo home run in the fourth frame to own a 3-0 lead that would last until the sixth inning.
- Edgewood University (11-14, 4-6 NACC) finally got their bats going in the sixth frame, with a solo home run off the bat of Allie Draper. An RBI single from MacKenzie Miller plated the Eagles second run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Despite having the winning run on the bases in the seventh, the Eagles were unable to take home the win in game one.
- Lauren Prigge pitched five innings for the Eagles, striking out three batters. Hailie Boardman pitched two innings in relief.
CONCORDIA CHICAGO 15, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 8
- The Concordia Chicago bats continued to heat up in the nightcap, totaling 21 hits and scoring 15 runs. Alyssa Campos went 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles and four RBI. Melisa Hadzic went 4-for-5, adding a double, triple, and two RBI. In all, the Cougars totaled six extra-base hits in game two.
- The Cougars opened the first inning with one run after a triple off the bat of Hadzic. Edgewood University took their first lead of the day, scoring two runs off a double from Olivia Chichenoff.
- Concordia Chicago continued to roll, scoring five runs in the top of the third frame to take a 6-2 lead. Edgewood University rallied with three runs in the bottom of the third frame but still trailed 6-5.
- The Cougars added another five run inning in the fifth frame to take a commanding 11-5 lead.
- A three-run home run off the bat of Lily Mabs gave the Eagles hope, but the Cougars insured the victory with four runs in the seventh inning.
- Mabs went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs and adding four RBI. Draper went 2-for-3, scoring a run. Abilina Dubree recorded two hits, one of which was a double.
- Four different Eagles saw time in the circle in the nightcap. Ariana Macias earned the start and returned to the circle in later innings for 3.1 innings pitched. Boardman and Prigge pitched middle innings for the Eagles, while Natalie Fields struck out a batter through 0.2 innings pitched.
