Eagles drop heartbreaker at Cornell College

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Edgewood University women's lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker at Cornell College on Thursday. The Rams took the 8-7 conference contest after scoring the final three goals in six minutes. Christina Eloe scored four goals, two of which came in the fourth quarter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Going into the final 15 minutes on Thursday evening, Cornell College (5-8, 4-3 NACC) led Edgewood University (5-10, 4-3 NACC) 5-4. The Eagles opened the fourth quarter with three-straight goals to take a 7-5 lead with eight minutes remaining. Milli Shell scored just 22 seconds into the quarter to tie the game with five goals apiece. Eloe scored back-to-back goals to give the Eagles their two goal lead. From there, the Rams found the back of the net three times, including the game winner with 1:06 left on the clock.

- Edgewood University led 3-1 after the first 15 minutes on Thursday. Evi Reedy scored first for Cornell, but it was goals from Eloe and Paige Janicki that put the Eagles up 3-1.

- The Rams defense shut out the Eagles in the second quarter, not allowing any of the Eagles six shots into the net. Meanwhile, the Rams scored twice to tie the game a three goals apiece.

- After the break, Cornell scored twice, while the Eagles only scored one time in the third quarter. Kailey Smith, assisted by Paige Janicki tied the game at four goals with 9:19 left in the third quarter.

- Edgewood University led Cornell 20-17 in shots on Thursday afternoon.

- Both teams saw a high turnover rate, with 66 turnovers in total. The Rams turned the ball over 33 times.

- The Eagles recorded a season-high 21 caused turnovers on Thursday. 11 different Eagles recorded a caused turnover in the conference contest.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Eloe led the Eagles with four goals, six ground balls, five caused turnovers, and four draw controls.

- Shell collected four ground balls and caused two turnovers.

- Bella Braun collected five saves in net.

THE OPPOSITION
- Ava Ferencz led the Rams with three goals and two assists. She added three draw controls and two caused turnovers.

- Natalie Hudgins caused a team-high four turnovers and collected four ground balls.

- Sabrina Ibanez picked up seven ground balls and collected three draw controls.

- Hannah Meich collected six saves for the Rams in net.

- Eloe, the Eagles career caused turnover leader reached the century mark on Thursday evening.
