Eagles split with Regents in Pair of Five-Inning Games

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Edgewood University softball team split at Rockford University on Sunday. The Eagles claimed a 14-5 run-rule victory in a game one that featured six extra base hits for Edgewood University. Rockford University battled back in game two for an 11-3, 5 inning final.

EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 14, ROCKFORD UNIVERSITY 5 – 5 INNINGS
- The Edgewood University (11-12, 4-4 NACC) bats were rolling from the beginning in game on at Rockford University (11-15, 7-9 NACC) on Sunday. The Eagles posted 13 hits that included four doubles, a triple and a home run. Natalie Fields, Grace Dooley, Hailie Boardman, and Allie Draper each roped a double. Abilina Dubree posted a triple, while Lily Mabs blasted her sixth home run of the season.

- An RBI single off the bat of Dubree plated the first Eagle run in the first frame on Sunday. Mabs blasted a two-run home run to right center in the next at-bat to give the Eagles a three run lead after one inning.

- Edgewood University looked consistent in game one, scoring two runs in the second, third, and fourth frames. Rockford scored runs in the first, third, and fourth, but it wasn't enough to slow the Eagle attack. After four full innings, the Eagles led 9-5.

- The Eagle bats didn't slow down in the fifth frame, scoring five runs and taking home the run-rule victory.

- Lauren Prigge claimed the win in the circle for the Eagles, pitching four innings and striking out six batters.

- Fields and Boardman went 3-for-3 and both scored three runs. Mabs and Draper each posted four RBI.

ROCKFORD UNIVERSITY 11, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 3 – 5 INNINGS
- The Eagle bats struggled considerably in game two, only scoring three runs on eight hits. Rockford took advantage of all their opportunities, scoring 11 runs on 10 hits. The Regents also took advantage of miscues from the Eagle defense.

- Edgewood University scored first in game two, but five runs from the Regents in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the host a 5-1 lead.

- A pair of singles from Boardman and Erica Johnson plated two runs in the top of the second inning. The Eagle runs ended there, as the Regents scored two in the second, one in the fourth, and three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

- Boardman threw four innings for the Eagles. The freshman struck out three batters and scattered nine hits.

- Edgewood University will host Benedictine University in a conference doubleheader on Wednesday, April 15. Action will start at 3:00 p.m. from Ceniti Park.
