VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood University softball team claimed a conference split with Wisconsin Lutheran College on Sunday afternoon. After falling 11-9 in game one, the Eagles claimed a 10-1 run-rule victory thanks to a walk-off home run from Hailie Boardman.
WISCONSIN LUTHERAN COLLEGE 11, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 9
- Wisconsin Lutheran College (8-10, 2-2 NACC) took home the victory in game one on Sunday, thanks to eight hits. The Warriors got things going in the second inning, scoring five runs in the top of the frame. Edgewood University (10-9, 3-1 NACC) responded in the bottom of the inning, scoring six runs to take a 6-5 lead.
- The Warriors weren't satisfied, scoring four runs in the third frame for a 9-6 lead. Wisconsin Lutheran tacked on another two runs in the fourth after holding the Eagles scoreless in the third frame for a 11-6 advantage.
- Edgewood University would plate three runs in the fourth inning, but it wasn't enough to stop the Warriors. The Wisconsin Lutheran starting pitcher Teagan Piven returned to the field in the fourth inning and shut down the Eagles attack. Piven struck out five batters and only allowed three hits in the circle on Sunday.
- Lily Mabs went 3-for-3 at the plate, scoring a run and claiming an RBI. Abilina Dubree, MacKenzie Miller, and Allie Draper each posted two hits for Edgewood University.
- Hailie Boardman put together five innings in the circle for the Eagles, striking out a batter and scattering three hits.
EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 10, WISCONSIN LUTHERAN COLLEGE 1 – 5 INNINGS
- The Eagles put together a solid effort at the plate in game two on Sunday. Edgewood University combined for 13 hits, including five extra-base hits.
- Boardman highlighted the Eagles efforts in the bottom of the fifth inning by sending her first collegiate home run over the fence to claim the run-rule victory.
- The Eagles bats broke through in the bottom of the third frame, scoring three runs. Savannah Radtke highlighted the Eagles efforts in the third inning, plating two runners thanks to a double to left field.
- Wisconsin Lutheran's only run came via a solo home run from Kylie Gaston in the fourth inning.
- Edgewood University added two runs in the fifth frame and tacked on four more runs in the fifth.
- Prigge went the distance in the circle for the Eagles, striking out a batter and only allowing one run to score while scattering six hits.
- Boardman went 2-for-2 in the nightcap, scoring three runs and posting two RBI. Draper added another 2-for-2 effort, scoring twice and roping a double. Miller, Mabs, and Radtke also posted two hits each.
