CHICAGO, Ill. – The Edgewood University women's lacrosse team opened conference play with a confident offensive victory at Illinois Tech. The Eagles downed the Scarlet Hawks 11-3, scoring three goals three of four quarters. Kailey Smith and Kerry Costello dominated the Eagles attack, combining for eight of the Eagles 11 goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (2-7, 1-0 NACC) opened Tuesday night's conference contest with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Kerry Costello and Paige Janicki. Ashlynn Coleman assisted on the Eagles first goal, while Smith dished out an assist on goal number two.
- Illinois Tech (2-7, 0-1 NACC) tied things up at two-goals apiece with 12:19 on the clock in the second quarter. From there, the Eagles scored three-straight goals to take a 5-2 lead into halftime.
- Smith and Costello combined for three goals in the third quarter to take an 8-2 lead. The Eagles held the Scarlet Hawks scoreless in the third quarter, only allowing one shot from the host.
- The Eagles solidified the victory with three goals in the final 15 minutes.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Smith posted a career night for the Eagles, totaling four goals and adding an assist.
- Costello posted four goals and caused three turnovers.
- Christina Eloe scored twice, dished out an assist, collected a game-high six draw controls, and added five ground balls.
- Lauryn Brown added three caused turnovers and collected four ground balls.
- Bella Braun claimed her second career win in net for the Eagles.
