CHICAGO, Ill. – The Edgewood University men's lacrosse team opened conference action at Illinois Tech on Saturday. The Scarlet Hawks scored three or more goals in each quarter, handing the Eagles a 17-5 loss. Gavin Williams led the Eagles with a hat trick.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Illinois Tech (2-6, 1-0 NACC) held Edgewood University (0-6, 0-1 NACC) scoreless through the first quarter on Saturday afternoon. Gavin Williams broke scoring open for the Eagles in the second quarter. Zach Thomas connected on a pass from James Borgardt with 8:31 left in the second quarter to trail Illinois Tech 4-2. The Scarlet Hawks went on to score seven times in the second quarter and take a 10-3 lead into halftime.
- Williams scored the Eagles only goal of the third quarter, while Illinois Tech found the back of the net four times. Thomas added the Eagles final goal with 12:56 remaining in the final quarter. The Scarlet Hawks netted the final three goals of the game.
- Illinois Tech led the Eagles 19-7 in face offs on Saturday.
- The Eagles cleared the ball at a 19-to-22 mark in the conference contest.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Williams posted his first hat trick as an Eagle.
- James Borgardt added two assists on the afternoon, collected three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
- Logan Searles posted seven saves in net for the Eagles. Dominic Derocker saw his first action in goal, making five saves across 15 minutes.
THE OPPOSITION
- Will Von Eyser posted five goals and three assists on Saturday.
- Diego Sosa scored four goals and dished out an assist.
- Duwayne Aikins went 13-for-17 at the face off.
- Ryan Littler posted six saves across 43 minutes in net. Andrew Potter and Jordan Wadford also saw time in goal for the Scarlet Hawks.
