CHICAGO, Ill. – Baseball opened up NACC play on a beautiful Saturday in Illinois. They took on the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks for a doubleheader. The Eagles (8-6, 2-0 NACC) had the wind at their backs, crushing seven home runs in a sweep of the Scarlet Hawks (5-9, 0-2).
GAME ONE: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 11, ILLINOIS TECH 5
- The Scarlet Hawks got the jump in the first inning with a pair of sacrifice grounders for a 2-0 lead.
Charlie Tompach put the Eagles on board with an RBI single to center in the third, while a
Jacob Carney home run and a Illinois Tech grounder offset in the fourth.
- Edgewood University put on the pressure in the fifth. A two-RBI single from Carney kicked things off, but
Mac Vesperman continued the fireworks with a three-RBI homer. The Scarlet Hawks would keep pace with one in the fifth and sixth to trail 7-5 heading into the eighth.
- A
Dominic Lee home run in the eighth tacked on one for the Eagles before the visitors all but put things away in the top of the ninth. A two-RBI Lee double down the right field line and a
Ben Truby sacrifice fly put the bow on a strong game one.

Aidan Kammer hit 4-for-4 with a pair of runs and a double.

Aiden Shumaker pitched a complete game, allowing four earned runs and fanning six.
GAME TWO: EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 19, ILLINOIS TECH 5 (SEVEN INNINGS)
- Vesperman picked up where he left off with a three-run homer in the first inning. The Eagles kept the pressure on in the third, a Kammer double, a Vesperman single, and a
Hayden Hellenbrand two-run homer leaving things 7-0 Edgewood University.
- After a single and a grounder put a pair on board for the Scarlet Hawks in the third, the Eagles replied with three runs in the fourth. After an error helped plate one, Kammer took a hit by pitch with the bases loaded and Hellenbrand sent one in with a sacrifice fly for a 10-2 advantage.
- After a home run for Illinois Tech left things 10-3 after four, a
Kyle Prindle grand slam broke the game wide open in the fifth. An RBI double for the Scarlet Hawks left things 14-4 after five.
- Edgewood University kept their foot on the gas with the run rule in sight in the sixth.
Connor Mirocha tallied one with a single to left field, while Carney continued a solid day with a sacrifice fly.
Nolan Brozyna put the cherry on top with a three-run home run for a 19-4 lead. While an error would put one on the board for Illinois Tech in the seventh, the Eagles would claim a decisive run-rule victory.

Mark Tor stepped up for a complete game victory on the mound. He allowed four earned runs and struck out eight in a strong showing.
