UNION, N.J. – Men's Volleyball wrapped up their Spring Break trip Tuesday. They took on the Kean Cougars, ranked #19 in the latest AVCA poll. The Cougars (16-7) held off the Eagles (7-12) in a 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-17) sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kean started off strong, ahead 7-3 with some potent offense. Edgewood University struggled to overcome the early deficit and five unanswered from the Cougars put them well ahead 18-10 late as the hosts won the first set.
- The two teams exchanged body blows as the second set rolled on. The Eagles struck first with three in a row for a 10-7 edge before a 4-1 reply by Kean erased their deficit. Four straight points from the Cougars, including a pair of aces, pulled them ahead 15-13. Edgewood University answered with three points in a row for a 16-15 edge, After battling to a 21-21 draw, back-to-back points from Kean proved pivotal as they won a narrow victory.
- The Cougars quickly put the Eagles behind them in the third frame. After starting the set ahead 7-2, eight unanswered from Kean had them roaring ahead 15-4 as Edgewood University struggled with the offensive onslaught and found themselves unable to make up much ground.
- The Cougars won the hitting battle .299-to-.233 and had seven aces to the Eagles two.
- Chris Mitchell was a force to be reckoned with for the hosts with 13 kills on 19 attempts for a .684 hitting percentage. He also posted five aces.
- David Flores shined at setter with 22 assists and eight digs.

Oakley Griggs posted nine kills and two aces in the defeat.

Bryce Wrobel performed well as the setter with 28 assists.

Tanner Sindorf led all players with 10 digs.

Edgewood University returns to the Midwest Saturday. They will continue NACC action with a pivotal match at the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. in Chicago, Ill.
