Eagles fall in non-conference action at Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Edgewood University men's lacrosse team faced a tough task in undefeated Hope on Tuesday. The Eagles fell via a score of 23-5 in the final non-conference contest of 2026 for Eagles men's lacrosse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Eight goals in the first quarter from Hope (7-0) stifled the Edgewood University (0-5) attack on Tuesday afternoon. Ryan Hanrahan tied the game just 50 seconds in, but seven straight goals from the Flying Dutchmen was too much to stop. James Borgardt gave Edgewood University two goals in the final seconds of the first quarter.

- Gavin Williams and Wyatt Heabel scored in the second quarter for the Eagles. Hope netted five goals and took a 13-4 advantage into halftime.

- Hope didn't let up in the third quarter, scoring seven times and holding the Eagles scoreless after the break.

- Zach Thomas netted the Eagles final goal with 7:47 left in the fourth quarter.

- 24 turnovers doomed the Eagles in the non-conference contest.

TOP PERFORMERS
- Thomas, Williams, Hanrahan, Heabel, and Borgardt all scored for the Eagles.

- Thomas dished out the Eagles only assist of the afternoon.

- Hanrahan led the Eagles with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers.

- Searles posted 17 saves in net for the Eagles.

THE OPPOSITION
- 12 different Flying Dutchmen scored on Tuesday. Gibson Heethuis led the way with four goals and nine assists. Preston Hoexum scored four times and dished out three assists. Will Tobias added a hat trick.

- Hope went 22-for-31 at the face off, with Jackson Early collecting 8-of-10, while Jackson Vasquez went 4-for-4.

- Four different goalkeepers saw time in net for Hope. Jack Balmforth picked up the win with five saves across 30 minutes.

- Edgewood University opens conference action on Saturday, March 21 at Illinois Tech. Action is set for 12:00 p.m. from Chicago, Ill.
