PENSACOLA, Fla. – Baseball wrapped up Spring Break action at the Studer's Blue Wahoos Stadium Challenge Tuesday in Pensacola, Fla. They took on the Trinity Bantams in a rematch of Saturday's game. The Bantams (8-1) earned the victory once more over the Eagles (6-6) in a 10-6 affair.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- While Edgewood University got a runner home with a throwing error in the first, Trinity replied in the second with an RBI triple and an outfield single plating two.
Aidan Kammer sent a solo shot over the right field fence to leave things tied 2-2 after three.
- The Bantams took over in the middle innings. After a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a home run in the fifth added a run apiece, a three-run sixth helped push their lead further. A sacrifice fly, an outfield single, and a double pushed the lead to 7-2.
- The Eagles would get a run back in the bottom of the sixth, but a pair of doubles from Trinity in the seventh put them ahead 9-3. A sacrifice ground out set the tally at 10-3 Bantams heading into the bottom of the eighth.
- Edgewood University tried to rally late, a
Hayden Hellenbrand double and a
Carter Kelley sacrifice fly cutting the edge to 10-5 after eight. While a
Ryan Harris sacrifice fly would cut the gap down to 10-6, Trinity would put away the victory.
- Andrew Oppenheimer shined in the test for Trinity as the starting pitcher. He threw five innings, striking out six and allowing one earned run.
- Tyler Bernstein recorded three RBIs, including a home run. Cole Mascolo posted a pair of RBIs with a double and a triple.
- Hellenbrand hit 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double. Kammer posted a pair of RBIs.
UP NEXT
The Eagles return to the Midwest to kick off NACC action next Saturday. They'll take on the Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks down in Chicago, Ill. First pitch in the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
