THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Edgewood University women's lacrosse team opened their California trip at Cal Lutheran. The Regals claimed a 12-5 victory thanks to seven goals in the second half on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After 15 minutes, Edgewood University (1-6) and Cal Lutheran (2-5) were tied at two goals apiece. Josie Oparanaku and Christina Eloe scored the first goals for either side through the first five minutes. With 2:02 remaining in the first quarter, Eloe netted a player-up goal to tie the contest at two.
- Kerry Costello's goal at 5:15 in the second quarter tied the contest at three goals. From there, the Regals scored twice before halftime for a 5-3 advantage.
- Malak Daoud and Eloe each scored in the second half, but it wasn't enough to match the seven goals from the Regals after the break. Cal Lutheran scored a game-high four goals in the fourth quarter.
- Edgewood University led Cal Lutheran 12-7 in draw controls.
- 21 turnovers doomed the Eagles on Saturday.
- Both the Eagles and Regals were perfect on the clear. Edgewood University went 8-for-8, while Cal Lutheran went 12-for-12.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Eloe posted her second-straight hat trick on Saturday.
- Milli Shell collected a team-high four draw controls.
- Holly Wallis collected eight saves in net for the Eagles.
THE OPPOSITION
- Seven different Regals scored on Saturday. Josie Oparanaku posted three goals and dished out an assist.
- Oparanaku added five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
- Sydney Shin collected three draw controls.
- Bella Bravo made five saves for Cal Lutheran.
