PACE, Fla. – Baseball continued Spring Break action down in Florida Friday evening. They took on the Grinnell Pioneers in a nonconference tilt. The Eagles (5-3) continued their hot streak, winning their fourth game in their last five with a 17-4 (8 innings) victory over the Pioneers (3-9).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University poured it on early, getting the bases loaded and taking full advantage.
Aidan Kammer grounded out to bring in run, while
Mac Vesperman singled in another. After a wild pitch played a third,
Charlie Tompach tacked on a fourth with a sacrifice fly. A Kammer sacrifice fly and a
Ben Truby walk in the second left things 6-0 after two.
-
Kyle Prindle batted in a run, while
Hayden Hellenbrand took advantage of Grinnell mistakes with a sacrifice fly to add on a pair in the third. The Eagles would break things wide open as the Pioneers struggled with fielding again in the fourth, an error on a sacrifice bunt plating Truby, while
Carter Kelley tallied another with a single to left center. A wild pitch brought home
Jacob Carney, before
Aidan Kammer grounded in another runner for a 12-0 lead after four.
- A Carney RBI single to right field in the sixth was the only offense for a little bit, but Grinnell found their opening and fended off the run rule with a four-run seventh, a pair of singles and a pair of wild pitches staving off defeat. Prindle and
Nolan Brozyna would plate a run apiece with RBI singles to the outfield, while Hellenbrand added a two-RBI single to center. A three-up, three-down bottom of the eighth would seal the deal for Edgewood University.
-
Kris Hahn shined in a near-flawless six innings of pitching. He allowed three hits, no runs, and struck out four.
- Prindle was everywhere on the base paths. He earned a pair of RBIs, a pair of stolen bases, a pair of walks, a double, and six runs.
- Hellenbrand swiped a pair of bases. He also tallied three RBIs and three runs. Kammer posted three RBIs of his own.
- Carney swung 3-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of walks. Truby
