Team effort fuels Eagles comeback versus Regents

MADISON, WIS. – Men's Basketball returned to the Todd Wehr Edgedome Saturday for Jam the Gym. They hosted the Rockford Regents in a NACC battle. The Eagles (4-16, 4-10 NACC) found themselves down eight heading into the last 10 minutes but stormed back for a 75-71 victory over the Regents (10-11, 7-7).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first ten minutes saw the squads exchanging haymakers, Rockford attacking the paint while Edgewood University had a hot hand from three-point land. The Eagles led 21-16 with 9:45 remaining. The Regents would stay hot on their heels, but a Avery Houden tip-in with moments left in the half sent Edgewood University to the locker room up 41-37.
 
- Rockford erased the Eagles edge early in the second half with a 5-1 run to tie things up at 42-42. The Regents slowly took over, a 10-2 burst having the visitors rolling 56-48 with 9:52 remaining. Edgewood University dug deeper and replied, a 13-4 answer pushing them ahead 61-60 with 4:32 left. The two squads wrestled for moment, each scoring five unanswered as the Eagles hung on 66-65 with 2:02 left. Stout defense and solid offense worked in tandem for Edgewood University, a three-pointer from Logan Steffensmeier sparking a 5-0 run and putting the Eagles in control in the final minute for the victory.
   
- Fast break points proved to be key for Edgewood University as they held a 10-2 edge in the category. Their depth also proved pivotal, outscoring the Rockford bench 25-to-16.
 
- Five Eagles finished with double-digit points. Payton Bowser, Trent Tousana, and Avery Houden all earned 11 points.
 
- Zane Willadsen tallied eight points, six rebounds, and three assists. Jonah Anderson contributed four assists, a team-high.
 
- Steffensmeier stepped up down the stretch. He paced the squad with 18 points and six rebounds, adding on two blocks and a steal.
 

 
- Tre Miller led the visitors with 18 points. Jaden Bell posted a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Steffensmeier's 18 points were a career best.
 
- The victory snapped a six-game losing streak against Rockford.
 
UP NEXT
Edgewood University will look to keep momentum rolling as they continue their season-ending home stretch. They'll host the Concordia Chicago Cougars for more NACC action. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Todd Wehr Edgedome Wednesday.
