VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood University women's lacrosse team defeated Augustana 11-7 in their home opener on Saturday. Despite snowy conditions throughout the game, the Eagles jumped on the Vikings in the first half. Christina Eloe led the Eagles with five goals in the non-conference battle.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (1-1) didn't waste any time on Saturday, scoring six goals in the opening quarter. The Eagles defense held Augustana (3-1) scoreless in the opening 15 minutes. Four different Eagles scored in the opening quarter, led by a hat trick from Eloe. Kerry Costello netted the Eagles second goal with 11:17 remaining. Malak Daoud added an unassisted goal at the 7:03 mark. Kamryn Ibinger netted her first goal as an Eagle with 37 remaining in the quarter.
- Augustana netted four goals in the second quarter, but the Eagles hung tough, scoring three times. Ashlynn Coleman scored the Eagles seventh goal, while Paige Janicki netted a player-up goal before halftime.
- The snow intensified after the break, slowing play and making conditions slippery. Augustana scored the only goal of the third quarter, reducing the Eagles lead to just four goals (9-5).
- Both the Eagles and Vikings scored twice in the fourth quarter.
- Bella Braun did well in net for the Eagles in the final quarter, making four saves and helping the Eagles solidify the victory.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Eloe tied her career-best goals at five on Saturday. The senior added seven ground balls, three caused turnovers, and two draw controls.
- Daoud posted two goals.
- Ibinger, Ashlynn Coleman, and Paige Janicki scored their first goals as Eagles.
- Coleman dished out a team-high two assists.
- Lauryn Brown led the Eagles with four draw controls and added three caused turnovers.
- Hollen Thompson was a solid force for the Eagles defensively, causing three turnovers.
- Braun posted eight saves in net for the Eagles.

- Madison Langewisch led the Vikings with three goals and two assists.
- Kendall Phelan and Langewisch both picked up four ground balls.
