RHINELANDER, Wis. – The Edgewood University softball team concluded action at the Hodag Dome on Friday with a doubleheader against Carroll University. The Eagles fell in game one via a score of 4-3. The Edgewood University bats bounced back in game two with a 7-4 victory.
CARROLL UNIVERSITY 4, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 3 – GAME ONE
- Going into the final inning, Edgewood University (3-3) led Carroll University (3-3) 3-2. A pair of walks put the winning run on base. A single up the middle from Grace O'Connor put the Pioneers on top 4-3. The Eagles struggled to respond in the bottom of the inning, despite a lead-off single from Allie Draper.
- The Eagles scored first in game one, as a RBI single from Abilina Dubree plated Natalie Fields.
- Natalie Fields led the Eagles offense with two hits. Lily Mabs posted a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
- It was a tale of three pitchers on both sides on Friday morning. The Eagles trio featured a start from Lauren Prigge. Hailie Boardman came on in relief and added three innings, while Grace Baugnet threw the final inning. The Pioneers featured Mya Schneider who went 4.1 innings in the circle and posted three strikeouts. Julia Hupp faced one batter, while Makayla Wall claimed the win for Carroll with 2.1 innings pitched.
EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 7, CARROLL UNIVERSITY 4 – GAME TWO
- Edgewood University wasn't satisfied with their game one performance, as the bats quickly responded in the second inning of game two. The Eagles posted four runs in the top of the second inning. A pair of home runs from Draper and Mabs in the third frame game the Eagles a confident 7-0 advantage.
- Carroll responded in the bottom of the fourth frame, scoring three runs, but the Eagles defense stayed poised through the final three innings to take home the victory.
- Prigge made her fifth appearance and fourth start of the week in the circle. The sophomore went 3.1 innings for the Eagles and struck out five batters. Hailie Boardman took home her first win as an Eagle, pitching 3.2 innings and scattering six hits.
- Grace Dooley went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Eagles and scored a run.
- Mabs went 2-for-4 with her second home run of the day, a double, and four RBI.
