RHINELANDER, Wis. – Day two of in the Hodag Dome featured a doubleheader against No. 13 UW-Stevens Point for Edgewood University softball. The Eagles dropped game one 8-0 to the Pointers before rallying for a walk-off 2-1 victory in nine innings.
EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 2, UW-STEVENS POINT 1 – 9 INNINGS
- Through seven innings, Edgewood University (2-2) and UW-Stevens Point (3-1) were scoreless in game two of the twin bill. Both the Eagles and Pointers put runners in scoring position throughout the contest, but solid defense sent the game into extra innings scoreless.
- The Pointers came across to score first in the eighth inning. Ashley LeCavalier reached on a single to left center, advancing a runner to third. A failed pickoff attempt from the Eagles allowed pinch runner Cora Stodola to score and give the Pointers a 1-0 lead.
- The Eagles weren't satisfied, moving runners in the bottom of the inning via a sacrifice bunt. Chloe McLaughlin eventually came around to score and tie the contest up.
- Edgewood University took care of business on defense in the top of the ninth inning. Abilina Dubree was the hero for the second time at the Hodag Dome, scoring Gracie Halfman from second base via a single down the left field line.
- Lauren Prigge threw a complete game for the Eagles. The sophomore struck out four batters and allowed just three hits and no earned runs.
- The last time the Eagles defeated the Pointers was on April 16, 2009, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.
UW-STEVENS POINT 8, EDGEWOOD UNIVERSITY 0 – 5 INNINGS
- UW-Stevens Point opened the day with a strong performance on both sides of the ball. The Pointers combined for six hits that included a double and two home runs. The Pointers opened the bottom of the first inning with a pair of home runs to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Eagles hung tough until the fifth inning, when the Pointers tallied six runs to come away with the run-rule victory.
- Allie Draper and Grace Dooley were the lone Eagles with hits in game one.
- Hailie Boardman earned the start in the circle, going 4.1 innings and giving up four hits.
- Morgan Harwood took the win for UW-Stevens Point, striking out six batters through four innings of work. Ashley Zygowski claimed her second save of the season, striking out three batters in the top of the fifth inning.
