VERONA, Wis. – The Edgewood University men's lacrosse team fell to Carthage College 13-6 Wednesday evening. The Firebirds broke through in the second quarter with six goals in the non-conference battle. Zach Thomas and James Borgardt led the Eagles attack, while Logan Searles played a large role in net.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (0-2) and Carthage College (4-1) were scoreless through the first 15 minutes on Wednesday. Both teams were evenly matched in the first quarter, both taking eight shots.
- Andy Slattery got the Firebirds on the scoreboard with 13:13 on the clock in the second quarter. Slattery gave Carthage a 2-0 advantage just seven seconds later. James Borgardt gave the Eagles their first goal at Edgewood University Field at Reddan Park in 2026. Borgardt found the back of the net with 11:36 on the clock in the second quarter. The Firebirds rattled off four-straight goals to take a 6-1 advantage before Thomas scored with just 28 seconds before halftime to trail Carthage by four goals at the break.
- Borgardt scored the Eagles sole goal of the third quarter. Carthage tacked on three goals of their own after halftime, taking a 9-3 lead into the final quarter.
- Thomas opened scoring for the Eagles in the fourth quarter. Bennett Closset and Gavin Williams added to the Eagles attack in the final quarter.
- Logan Searles played a key part in the Eagles defense, making five saves in the final quarter and holding Carthage to just four goals.
