LISLE, Ill. – The Edgewood University women's basketball team fell at Benedictine University on Saturday afternoon. The 83-52 NACC contest went in favor of Benedictine. McKenna Reilly led the Eagles scoring efforts on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Edgewood University (11-12, 10-6 NACC) struggled to keep pace with Benedictine University (17-6, 12-4 NACC) in the final minutes of the first quarter. The host Eagles shot a game-high 60 percent from the floor in the opening quarter and held Edgewood University to just 12 points.
- Benedictine tacked on another 20 plus point quarter in the second quarter. Edgewood University shot a game high 37.4 (6-for-16) from the floor to total 17 points before halftime. Benedictine stayed consistent through the second quarter and took a 17-point advantage into halftime.
- Benedictine dominated the final five minutes of the third quarter, holding Edgewood University scoreless and netting 12 points to take a confident 28 point (65-37) advantage into the final quarter.
- Edgewood University managed to net 15 points in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough to catch Benedictine on Senior Day.
- Turnovers doomed Edgewood University, as Benedictine scored 24 points off turnovers on Saturday.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Reilly netted a team-high 10 points on Saturday.
- Laci Lindsey scored eight points, pulled down six rebounds, dished out two assists and collected a block and steal.
- Taylor Wollin scored eight points and pulled down five rebounds.
THE OPPOSITION
- Four Benedictine players finished in double-digit scoring on Saturday afternoon. Allison Jarvis led the way with 17 points, going 6-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the charity stripe. Abby Drendel added 16 points, making 4-for-5 from beyond the arc. Makenzie Carroll and Catey Carney both posted 10 points.
- Benedictine won the rebounding game on Saturday, collecting 44 total. Olympia Kokkines pulled down six rebounds, while Carroll added five of her own.
- Benedictine posted 47.7 percent shooting from the floor, including 60 percent (9-for-15) from the floor in the first quarter.
- 43 of the total 83 points came from bench players on Saturday.
